GARAGE FIRE CAUSES OVER $100K IN DAMAGE

Elyria – An early morning fire in Elyria caused in excess of $100,000.00 in damages on Ridge Street.

Elyria Firefighters were called to 107 Ridge Street at 5:25 a.m. Friday morning after Lorain County 9-1-1 received calls of a garage on fire and possibly with someone inside.

When Firefighters arrived on scene they found the garage fully involved and quickly spreading to the back of the home and quickly climbed up into the attic. The garage next door and a couple cars in the driveway also caught fire. The home next door also received what Firefighters call “radiant damage”.
While a group of Firefighters began hitting the fire with water another group entered the home to search for extension of the fire.

It took just about an hour for Firefighters to call the fire extinguished.

The garage was used as storage for a local business and contained flammable liquids and equipment. While Firefighters were battling the blaze a number of small explosions went off inside of the garage.

Everybody was able to get out of the structures involved with no injuries.

The home at 107 Ridge Street received an estimated $75,000.00 in damage while the garage suffered about $45,000.00 in damages.

The neighbor’s garage and house along with the two cars in the driveway add another $50,000.00 in damages.

Officials from the Elyria Fire Department are investigating the fire to determine the cause.

“HAVE YOU EVER NOTICED……

Legendary newsman Andy Rooney died Friday night in a hospital in New York City of complications following minor surgery. Rooney was 92.

Rooney had announced on October 2nd in his 1,097th essay for CBS’ 60 Minutes program that he would no longer appear regularly.

Rooney was famous for his opening line, “have you ever noticed…, in fact after asking thousands of questions in his appearances on 60 Minutes he never used that line. Comedian Joe Piscopo used it during skits on Saturday Night Live and, from then on, it was forever linked to Rooney.

Each Sunday night Rooney would explain what was bothering him that week. One was how some people pronounce the second month of the year FebRUary and others FebUary.

What was your favorite?
