CHILD WAKES FAMILY – ALERTS THEM OF FIRE IN THE HOME
Elyria
– A seven year old boy is being credited for saving his family after a fire
broke out in their mobile home in Colonial Oaks off Middle Ave early Monday morning.
The father first woke up to his child yelling fire then woke up his wife. He then got his wife out through a back window and then started handing the children out to her one by one. The children, ages 2 months, 2 years and 7 years, were all taken to Grandma’s house across the street.
Assistant
Chief Ron Brlas of the Elyria Fire Department said the boy was sleeping in a
front room when he woke up and saw fire behind a TV set. “He crawled down the
hallway to the back of the home and woke up his parents.”

When
Firefighters arrived Brlas said they found heavy fire shooting from the front
of the home. Firefighters took about 20 minutes to bring the blaze under
control.

Paramedics were called to evaluate the family and ended up transporting all
five to Elyria Memorial Hospital for smoke inhalation. Brlas said the family
going to the hospital was more of a precaution than anything else.
The cause
of the fire is under investigation.
