FIRE DEEP IN THE WOODS

Sheffield Township – A suspicious fire late Friday night was found deep in the woods near the dead end of Ada St between Dunton and East 36th Street.

Firefighters had to haul hose approximately 800 to 1,000 feet to the fire from their trucks through mud and thick brush. One Firefighter who twisted his ankle and fell to the ground while making his way to the fire had to be treated by fellow Firefighters.

Chief Joe Bandagski of the Sheffield Township Fire Department said the location of the fire and the stacks of wood planks and brush made it a challenge for Firefighters. “The fire covers a 75’ x 100’ area and as you can see it’s difficult to get the guys and equipment back there. We will be here awhile getting the fire out and then overhauling to make sure we hit everything.”

Firefighters from Elyria Township Fire Department assisted in extinguishing the suspicious fire.
