CAR SLAMS INTO COLGATE HOME IN ELYRIA

As first reported on TWITTER @TMCNEWS
Elyria – A driver was taken to the hospital after crashing into a home on Colgate in Elyria early Friday morning.

Witnesses say they could hear the car coming south on Garford at what they believe was a high rate of speed just before the driver ran the stop sign at Garford and Colgate and drove into the side of the house.

Although there was extensive damage to the structure and two vehicles that were parked inside the garage nobody inside of the home was injured.

The Elyria Police are investigating the crash. More details will be posted later today.

DRIVER FLEEING TROOPER CRASHES INTO BOYS & GIRLS CLUB BUILDING

First reported on TWITTER @TMCNEWS
Elyria – Two people were taken to the hospital early Wednesday morning after they crashed into the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lorain County on Middle Ave.

Trooper Al Marcum of the Ohio State Patrol said that Officers in Elyria had been searching for this particular car all night. “The car had reportedly been stolen and there was also reports of the female, who was driving the car, having had assaulted the male passenger.”

Marcum said he spotted the Dodge Stratus on Broad Street near Middle Ave and activated his overhead lights to get the driver to pull over. Marcum said the driver immediately took off south on Middle Ave. The driver lost control of the car as she approached the intersection of Oberlin Road. Tracks in the grass shows that the car came in sideways crossing the lawn and then struck parts of a playground causing the car to go airborne and crash into the brick building.

Marcum and Officers from Elyria Police climbed over the car to gain access into the building to check on the welfare of the driver and passenger. They found both injured but speaking to them. When Firefighters and Paramedics arrived they made their way through a man door on the side of the building to the two victims.

Both the driver and passenger were then taken to Elyria Memorial Hospital Emergency Room with serious injuries but not life threatening injuries.

An official from the City of Elyria Building Department was called to the scene to check the stability of the structure. A short time later he posted signs that deemed the building as “unfit for human occupancy.”

The State Patrol is handling the crash with the assistance of the Elyria Police Department.

CHILD WAKES FAMILY – ALERTS THEM OF FIRE IN THE HOME

Elyria – A seven year old boy is being credited for saving his family after a fire broke out in their mobile home in Colonial Oaks off Middle Ave early Monday morning.

Assistant Chief Ron Brlas of the Elyria Fire Department said the boy was sleeping in a front room when he woke up and saw fire behind a TV set. “He crawled down the hallway to the back of the home and woke up his parents.”

The father first woke up to his child yelling fire then woke up his wife. He then got his wife out through a back window and then started handing the children out to her one by one. The children, ages 2 months, 2 years and 7 years, were all taken to Grandma’s house across the street.

When Firefighters arrived Brlas said they found heavy fire shooting from the front of the home. Firefighters took about 20 minutes to bring the blaze under control.
LifeCare Paramedics were called to evaluate the family and ended up transporting all five to Elyria Memorial Hospital for smoke inhalation. Brlas said the family going to the hospital was more of a precaution than anything else.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
