ARMY SERGEANT TORRES RETURNED HOME TODAY


Oberlin – Army Sergeant Louis R. Torres returned home today after being killed in Kandahar, Afghanistan last week.

Torres, a 2008 graduate of JVS, had been assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, Joint Base Lewis-Mc Chord, Washington. Torres was injured in Afghanistan and transferred to San Antonio Military Medical Center where he died on August 22nd.

The procession that began at Cleveland Hopkins Airport included members of Torres’ family, members of the Military, Police from around Lorain County and members of the Patriot Guard.

Hundreds of people lined the streets in Oberlin and paid their respects as the motorcade passed through downtown Oberlin on their way to Cowling Funeral Home on South Main Street.

Visitation will be at the Cowling Funeral Home at 228 South Main Street Thursday between the hours of 2 and 7. Church and burial services will be reserved for family, friends and military.
