TEEN RESCUED FROM RIVERBANK – RECEIVES CITATION AFTER

Elyria – A Lorain teen and his friends were swimming in the Black River near the water falls behind the Elyria Police Station Friday afternoon when one of the teens decided to hop on a log and ride it across the river.

Apparently the log was only a one-way trip and left the teen stranded on the Washington Ave side of the river. The teens began yelling for help and several Police Officers heard it and went to investigate and found the teen stranded.

Elyria Firefighters were called to retrieve the teen.

Assistant Chief Ron Brlas of the Elyria Fire Department said they threw a Personal Flotation Device (PFD) over to the teen along with a helmet and rope. Once the teen was strapped in and helmet on Firefighters guided him back across the river to safety and an awaiting Police Officer who cited him for swimming in the river.

The teen’s three other friends also received citations.
