CHECKPOINT NETS SIX OVI ARRESTS AND MORE

Elyria – Two OVI Checkpoints set up in Elyria Friday night netted 6 arrests for OVI, 7 Driving Under Suspensions, 2 Child Restraint violations and one for possession of marijuana.

The first checkpoint was set up on Lake Ave near St. Agnes Church and began a little earlier than usual at 6 pm and ran until 9. Even with the earlier start that checkpoint saw 5 of the 6 OVI arrests.

Lt. Travis Hughes of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said that in excess of 700 vehicles passed through the Lake Ave location while just over 400 had passed through the later checkpoint on Route 57 near Bell Ave.
