TEXAS ROADHOUSE EVACUATES FOR FIRE

Elyria – The Texas Roadhouse restaurant in Elyria off West River Road had to evacuate their customers Sunday night around 8 p.m. after a fire started in the kitchen.

Chief Richard Benton of the Elyria Fire Department just happened to be in town when he received the page about the fire. β€œAt this point it appears to be a grease fire that got up into the ventilation system and climbed up to the roof.”

As cooks tried to stop the blaze other employees began evacuating customers as the restaurant began filling with smoke. Customers in the parking lot all applauded the staff for how they handled the evacuation saying that everyone remained calm and orderly.

Some diners left without their food while others left with their plates and drinks to finish their dinner in the parking lot while watching the fire. One diner was spotted returning his plate and glass to one of the servers.

Benton said the cause of the fire is under investigation.

No injuries were reported.
