MAN RUNS FROM TROOPER AFTER CRASH

Elyria – An attempted traffic stop on East Broad Street late Monday night turned into a man crashing into a pole and running from the scene.

Lieutenant Travis Hughes of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the situation all began when a Trooper attempted to stop a car for an improper backing violation. “Trooper Jackson activated his emergency lights and the vehicle fled. He went east on Broad Street here and attempted to make a right hand turn and slid off the southeast corner striking the pole. At that time the driver, the lone occupant, fled the vehicle.”

Hughes said the description of the driver was given to the Elyria Police Department who quickly responded to the area. In a matter of minutes the man was found on Kenyon just a few blocks from the crash site. The man, who still had blood on his face from the crash, was taken into custody by Elyria Police.

According to Hughes charges are pending against the driver and the investigation as to why he fled is ongoing.

The crash brought down the pole and the traffic lights at the intersection of East Broad and Prospect. The intersection was closed for hours for repairs.
