SHOOTING SUSPECT IN CUSTODY

Elyria – Elyria Police announced late Monday night that they have arrested 38-year-old Brady Phillips of Elyria in connection with the shooting on David Drive Sunday night.

Lieutenant Andy Eichenlaub of the Elyria Police Department said that during their initial investigation revealed three gunshot victims inside the apartment at 115 David Drive. Two of the victims were residents later identified as David McDonough and Michael Stump. The third victim was identified as 38-year-old Herminio Serrano of Lorain.

“The investigation has revealed that Serrano and Phillips entered 115 David Drive, apartment G, with the intent to commit armed robbery,” Eichenlaub said. “During the commission of the armed robbery and altercation took place between the suspects and the apartment residents occurred. There was a struggle over a handgun.”

During the struggle McDonough suffered a gunshot wound to his abdomen – he remains in MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland recovering from his injuries. McDonough’s roommate Michael Stump suffered a gunshot to his head and died Monday morning.

Serrano died at the scene of a gunshot wound to his shoulder. Brady Phillips fled the scene without injury.

Eichenlaub said that the investigation into the identity of those involved led Officers to Brady Phillips, the last known suspect. Phillips was arrested near his home on 2nd Street in Elyria.

Phillips has been charged with Murder (F1), Aggravated Robbery (F1), and Felonious Assault (F2). He is being held at the Lorain County Jail without bond pending arraignment in the Elyria Municipal Court.

Eichenlaub said that the investigation of the circumstances surrounding this incident continue with the identification and interview of witnesses and the examination of evidence.
