FATAL CRASH AT W RIVER & 57

Elyria – One man is dead and another injured after a two car crash at the intersection of West River Road North and Route 57.

The crash occurred just before 3:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. Officials say that the 65 year old driver of a Buick LeSabre was traveling south on West River near 57 and slowed down to stop in the left turn lane when a red Jeep Cherokee slammed into the back of his car. At impact both vehicles traveled across the intersection and came to rest on the sidewalk at the southeast corner.


The impact was so hard the front of the Jeep was buried into the back of the Buick.

LifeCare Paramedics and Elyria Firefighters responded and treated both victims. The driver of the Buick was pronounced dead while the driver of the Jeep was transported to Elyria Memorial Hospital. He was later flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

Officials are not releasing the names of either victim at this time.

Although there have been problems with the new traffic patterns there have been no changes yet to the lights at West River and 57.


UPDATE: While the Police have yet to release the name of the driver of the Jeep Cherokee, they have released the name of the other driver as 65 year old Neil Jalowiec of Grafton. The crash remains under investigation.

UPDATE: Police have released the name of the driver who slammed into the Buick LeSabre as 23 year old Emelio Hernandez Perez of Elyria. No charges have been filed and the investigation continues.
