POWER GOES OUT IN DOWNTOWN
Elyria – Wires “slapping together” was the reason over 1,000 First Energy customers went without power for hours on Christmas.
The slapping took place in the area of East Ave and Second Street while our area experienced high winds.
A light pole was also brought down on East Ave near 4th Street. The pole fell onto a wire that crossed East Ave. Police blocked the intersection until First Energy Crews were able to pull the pole off the wires.
Crews from the City of Elyria Street Department placed portable stop signs throughout the downtown area where traffic lights went dark.
The power first went out at 12:30 and First Energy was able to start restoring power about 2 hours later.
No injuries were reported.
