BOUNCER STABBED IN ELYRIA
Elyria – A Bouncer was stabbed early Wednesday morning at an Elyria downtown bar.
Police responded to Benchwarmers Sports Bar & Grille on Lake Ave, next door to Uncle Vics, around bar closing time after receiving reports of a possible stabbing. While responding Police Dispatchers gave out a description of the suspect of as black male wearing a black shirt and jeans running south on Middle Ave near Ely Square. Police quickly swarmed the area and found Frederick Ferris who matched the description of the suspect and had blood around his eye.
Police had several witnesses to the assault go to where they had Ferris in custody – each one made a positive identification on him as the one who stabbed the bouncer.

LifeCare Paramedics and Firefighters treated 29 year old Brian Helke of Elyria for a stab wound to his chest and leg inside of the bar. Helke was then transported to Elyria Memorial Hospital where he was later flown to MetroHealth Medical Center.
Elyria Police Officer Rick Walker and his K9 Partner Stuka were able to locate the knife in the snow inside of Ely Square on the Broad Street side.

Police also discovered a shell casing and a clip inside of the bar. The gun itself was later located inside a sewer on Washington Ave. In order to retrieve the handgun Police had Mug’s Elyria Towing respond to the scene to lift the sewer grate. Once hoisted an Officer reached in and pulled the gun from the sewage.
Ferris was checked out by Paramedics but refused any treatment or transport.

I hope that the bouncer is doing ok. My prayers are with him for a speedy recovery.
I'm glad the police caught the guy who stabbed him.
