WHAT TO DO THIS WEEKEND?

Looking for something to do this weekend? Here are a few ideas for you and please feel free to leave ideas of your own for other readers in our comments section.

Of course many of you will be attending “ROUND TWO” of the Superior Cage Fighting’s Quaker Fight Series at Quaker Steak & Lube in Sheffield Village Friday night. Doors open at 7 with the first fight to start at 8PM. The weather forecast for tomorrow night is 80 & sunny. Perfect weather to enjoy the outdoor fights. If you have been past Quaker Steak today then you have seen the enormous tent that they have had set up for the event.

For those of you interested in grabbing dinner before the fights stop on by to Deluca’s Place in the Park on Middle Ridge Road in Lorain for a Hawaiian Luau / Steak Fry & Silent Auction presented by the Lorain County Deputies Association. Dinner will be served from 5 to 8PM then Dancing from 8 to Midnight. I am told that Hawaiian wear and checkbooks are encouraged.

RELAY FOR LIFE takes place this Saturday July 12th at Elyria Catholic Stadium. The Relay for Life is not just a fundraiser; it’s a unique activity that offers all involved an opportunity to take up the fight against cancer. It is about empowering individuals to fight back against a disease that has taken so much from them.

The event begins Saturday at 11AM with the Opening Ceremonies and Survivors Luncheon. The Survivors Dinner will be held at 4PM, Celebration ceremony at 6PM, Miss Relay Pageant at 7:30PM and the Luminary Ceremony (a must see experience) at 9PM. Live music, activities, food and games all night long.

TMCNEWS.NET will be there again to cover this most worthwhile event and will be keeping a close eye on a couple Gold Card members and their teams. Best of luck to Teams: “Kiss Cancer Goodbye” headed up by Abbe Chenoweth and “Pink Ladies” headed up by Laurie Bishop. Their dedication, strength and commitment to this cause is commendable and anyone who has been touched by Cancer should make plans to stop by EC this weekend and show their support to all involved in this years RELAY FOR LIFE. If you have it in you, take a lap or two with them as well.

Workshop Players Reprises “G.I. Jukebox” – Enjoy local theatre at its best as the Workshop Players present this musical. Enter the canteen, eat, dance and enjoy the best music and comedy the early 1940's have to offer. "Moonlight Serenade", "I'll Be Seeing You", "Mairzy Doats", and many others will have you singing along. This patriotic show is sure to please.

Performances will take place on June 26, 27, 28, 2008; and July 3, 5, 6, 11, 12, 13, 2008 at 8:00 p.m., with Sunday matinees on July 6 & 13, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. A service canteen is the setting for this nostalgic musical. Not all memories of WWII are unpleasant and “G.I. Jukebox” illustrates why.

Tickets are $12.00 each or $10.00 each for groups of 15 or more and may be reserved by calling the box office at (440) 988-5613. Workshop Players Theatre-in-the-Round is located at 44820 Middle Ridge Road in Amherst, and our mezzanine area is now wheelchair accessible. Check out our website at
