FRIDAY OVI CHECKPOINT IN LORAIN CO
ELYRIA – The Ohio State Highway Patrol, in conjunction with local law enforcement, announced today that a low-manpower OVI checkpoint will be held in Lorain County tomorrow evening.
The OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.
The checkpoint will also be held in conjunction with nearby saturation patrols to aggressively combat alcohol related injury and fatal crashes.
“On average, there are more than 16,000 alcohol-related traffic crashes that kill more than 450 people each year in Ohio,” Lt. Glenn Peterson, commander of the Patrol’s Elyria Post, said. “These checkpoints are designed to not only deter impaired driving, but to proactively remove these dangerous drivers from our roadways.”
The location of the checkpoint will be announced Friday morning.
