WOMAN DRIVES OFF ROAD
TAKES DOWN UTILITY POLE & WIRES
Elyria Township – Fred Shepherd was heading out to get the mail from his street side mailbox on Murray Ridge Road Friday afternoon at the same time an Elyria woman lost control of her vehicle just up the road. Shepherd said he heard a noise and looked over and saw the car going sideways off the road. “I saw it leave the road and strike the pole then it rolled over. Then the power lines started coming down so I just ran like hell back towards the house.” Even with a cell phone in his pocket Shepherd said that he yelled for his wife to call 9-1-1.According to Trooper Jeff Kaess of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said that the driver, 43 year old Melissa Rosemond of Elyria was traveling south on Murray Ridge Road in her 2007 Dodge Nitro when she drifted off of the left side of the road. “We are not sure at this point if she blacked out before drifting off the road or not. She struck the utility pole head on, the vehicle overturned after striking the pole causing the power lines to come down.”
Captain Brian Bell of the Elyria Township Fire Department said that Rosemond was out of the vehicle when Firefighters arrived. Bell said Rosemond was restrained at the time of the crash and that although she had no apparent visible injuries she was taken to Elyria Memorial for evaluation.
Trooper Kaess said that Rosemond will be charged with Failure to Control.
