HUNDREDS LOSE POWER IN ELYRIA

Elyria – With the temperatures hitting 90 again today many people took refuge in their homes with the air conditioners and fans going on high speed. Hundreds of homes on Elyria’s southeast side remained HOT though when the power went off.

Lieutenant Jamie Norris of the Elyria Fire Department said that a large tree that fell on Prospect Street brought some power lines down with it, causing the power outage. “When we arrived we found that the tree had fallen, probably due to the winds and insect infestation. When it fell it pulled down the power lines from Case to Harvard Ave. The affected area was from East Broad Street to Ashland Ave.”

Elyria Police Officers were directing traffic around the area and at East Broad & South Abbe for several hours.

Lt. Norris said that they were very fortunate today tha Ohio Edison arrived on scene just after the tree had fallen. “They were enroute there to actually do routine maintenance work on the light pole that was brought down by the tree. So it was a coincidence that they were there, but it worked out very well for us.”

Most of the power has been restored and Ohio Edison believes that the area should be back to 100% by this evening.

That was an opps. It was meant for the 301 crash where the mother was sent to the hospital.

i live 3 houses down from where this happened and thought something was funny. with all the city talk of gas conservation the paid two elyria police officers to sit in thier cars, one just south of the scene and another just north for 5+ hours with the running with the air conditioning on. i realize it was hot that day, but wouldnt a barricade have been able to do the same job for much cheaper. just a thought.

People are idiots and will blow thru the barricades. I have sat in a crusier for hours with my lightbar on, blocking the same type of scene and people still try to blow past. It sucks and it is expensive(5 hours of my time = aprox. 120.00 + gas) BUT better than having someone sue the city after they drive through the scene and get hurt. Even if the person loses the law suit the city still spent more money defending their actions than what they would have if they just paid an officer or have an Auxy block it off.

Dud....as reported by TMC there were power lines down, not just a tree. The officers were there to keep people away from a possile live line. Can a barricade do that?
From your posts here on TMC and loraincounty.com; you appear to have some animosity towards law enforcement. Think I'll check out the local court web sites to see why.
And to our officers.....keep your heads up because you do a good job. I am sure you would have rather been doing something else other than blocking the road. Remember that there are citizens who appreciate you and the job your do.....even though we do not say so nearly enough.

let me start off by apologizing for my first post. geez, i should have spell checked and grammar checked. i had a hard time understanding it and i wrote it.

next i would like to put in a request. if possible i would like to stop all the anonymous posting. i would love to put at least a screen name to some of the stupidity.

i would like to thank the anonymous poster that broke down the cost of officers sitting there.
that was a well thought out sensible post to my OBSERVATION. it makes sense that in today’s day and age that there are idiots who would ignore such a barricade and injure himself then sue. thank you.

now the fun stuff. mr. anonymous #2 was that power line live and hopping around on the ground the entire 5 hours?? first energy was on the scene with in minutes to secure any possible danger. it was just an observation that mr. anonymous #1 cleared up. as far as any previous post i have placed on this or any other site, (thanks for keeping track by the way, lord knows i don’t have time to do that.)
all of them except one that i can recall were posted as observations. they were not attacks on anyone personally. i have no "animosity" toward anyone on the elyria police force. as a matter of fact i have applauded them for the job they do day in and day out on this site and others. i have regular contact with many of them at my job and things i do in my personal time. the only post that i can recall making personal was on loraincounty.com and involved a particular officer that not only i but many others in elyria including a lot of dare i say officers have a problem with. as far as you checking into my background, should i be scared?? are you going to spank me and ground me?? ha-ha, im sorry that just made me laugh. this is an internet blog site and you’re going to look into a person's background. someone needs a hobby. maybe you should try your hand at comedy. then again you couldn't do that anonymously.

Unless you actually work at the department with the officers; all you have are people giving voice to rumor, inudendo, and more than likly bad feelings towards the police. Take care sir.
Support all law enforcement !!!
