LEGENDARY SPORTSCASTER DIES
1921 ~ 2008
Legendary sportscaster Jim McKay died Saturday morning in Monkton, Maryland of natural causes.
McKay, born September 24, 1921 in Philadelphia as James Kenneth McManus, was best known for hosting ABC’s Wide World of Sports from 1961 to 1998. His signature line, “…the thrill of victory, and the agony of defeat” is one of the most quotable lines in the sports world. McKay was also known for his coverage of 12 Olympics, the Kentucky Derby, the British Open and the Indianapolis 500 to just name a few.
McKay’s son, Sean McManus, is President of CBS Sports and News Division.
