CELEBRATE OUR INDEPENDENTS
UPDATE: WEDNESDAY
The list of Locally-Owned Independent businesses in Lorain County is growing – Keep the names of these businesses coming.
If you want to recommend a local business to our readers just click on the comments button and tell us about them. It can be a favorite restaurant, appliance store, clothing shop, auto-shop or flower shop – any type of business as long as it is locally owned and independent.
Keep the list growing and then get out there and support our neighbors.
****
July 1st through July 7th is “Celebrate Our Independents” week all across the nation. Studies show that money you spend with locally-owned independent businesses keeps approximately 3.5 times more money in our community than spending it with chains.
With this, we encourage you to make a special effort this week to stop by and support a locally-owned independent business.
If you are looking in the Elyria area for a nice meal in a relaxing atmosphere I would like to suggest the following joints.
Zaki's Restaurant & Deli 301 Broad St Elyria – (440) 323-6000 – I suggest the Swiss Melt & Fries for lunch. Ask for the fries well done.
Old Town Pizza House 195 Cleveland Ave, Amherst – (440) 984-2468 – I suggest the spaghetti with meatballs.
Krieg’s Ice Cream Stand – On Route 113 – just west of Route 58 – I suggest the Chili Dogs.
Master Pizza 427 Cleveland Street – Elyria 365-7383 – I suggest the Master Pizza Classic
The Pizza House 106 S Main St, Wellington – (440) 647-4348

Ok, so there is a common theme to my suggestions.
Now please add your own suggestions of any locally-owned Independent businesses to the comments section below. Let’s help support our local businesses by spreading the word that they are there.
I will end here because for some reason I am very hungry.

Besides food, please also remember all the other local merchants who have businesses in the area. We have locally owned and operated hardware stores, pet supply stores, tire shops, gas stations, lawn & garden shops, appliance stores and many others. Also, why not patronize these stores all year long instead of for just one week? You'll find it will make a great difference locally rather than sending your money overseas by buying at China-Mart (don't mean to bash them too hard, but if you see me in one of those stores, please notify the authorities because I'm either lost or deranged).
Anyway, good story TMC, and hopefully it will make people realize what all is available from your local independently owned and operated stores. Support them because they support your community!!
Ziggy's Grille in downtown Amherst has some great food. Chicken pita nachos, Bruchetta, Red pepper Hummus. And their Pizza is out of this world.
The old Roman Room on Broadway in Lorain is now a BBQ place. The food is great and prices are cheap. Wings, pulled pork, lamb, fish, smoked turkey, homeade macaroni and cheese, greens, chicken, fish, etc. Good Food and great service. The chef comes out of the kitchen and talks to customers. There is live enterainment on the weekends too. Give it a try.

Krieg's Ice Cream on rt. 113 just west of rt. 58 has some of the finest, richest ice cream (soft serve) and home made toppings around. The ice cream is extremely creamy, (probably higher butterfat content) and they have a unique flavor each week, such as strawberry, blueberry. The toppings are home made from the family's own farm.
