HOSTAGE SCENE IN AMHERST

Amherst Police Officers responded to a 911 call from 121 Forest Hill Drive for a domestic disturbance in which a male caller indicated he and his fiancé were involved in an argument, what happened when they arrived turned the situation into a hostage scene.
Amherst Police Lieutenant Joe Kucirek said when the Officers arrived at the home a man came out of the house and pulled what appeared to be a gun from his waistband and pointed it at the Officers. “At that point the Officers took cover and the man went back into the house. The Officers set up a perimeter around the house and called for the Lorain County Sheriff’s Department for more man power.”
Police now had the man inside of the home with his fiancé and four year old child.
Lt. Kucirek said the Lorain County SWAT Team, of which he is also a member, was utilized with the Armor Personnel Carrier “Snoopy” and the Lorain County Bomb Squad provided their Robot. “Before we were able to utilize the Robot to look inside some of the windows the female inside the home, along with her four year old son, made contact with the Amherst Police Department and subsequently we were able to get them out of the house unharmed.”
Once the woman and child were out of the house Officers made entry and found the male suspect in an upstairs bedroom passed out. He was taken into custody and charged with Aggravated Menacing F-5 (2 counts), Inducing Panic F-5 (1 count), and Resisting Arrest M-2 (1 count). The Amherst Police Detective Bureau did recover a handgun in a kitchen cabinet drawer. Upon further examination, the handgun was a plastic toy replica of a 9mm Semi-Automatic.
"Obviously we thought we had a more serious situation then what it turned out to be which we’re all grateful for and it ended the best way it possibly could have."

TMC News - any chance you could get a story on some of the Sheriff's specialty teams? Had no idea they had a "tank" for SWAT or a bomb disposal unit (thought both of them were consortium type units with different agencies represented). Just think it'd be neat to see what's available to help us law wise in the county.

The "tank" is an M113 armoured personnel carrier. Vietnam era vehicles that were replaced by the Bradley Fighting Vehicle in the late 80's. I bet they got a great deal on that when the army was scrapping them. Nice to see that some went to good use and not the scrap yard.

Brings back great memories when I was wrenching on them over in Germany.
