REPORT OF ATTEMPTED ABDUCTION

On Monday night, at approximately 11:30 PM, the Amherst Police Department responded to a residence near the Amherst Junior High School after a 16- year old Amherst boy called the station to report that an older male attempted to abduct him by grabbing him and attempting to pull him into a van as he drove his scooter through the school parking lot.

The boy told the Police dispatcher, and later the officers, that he was able to knock the suspect down and get away, then ride to a friend’s house nearby.

The boy described the van as a red in color and the driver as a white male approximately 40-years old wearing a red and white baseball cap.

The boy indicated he first observed the van at the intersection of Middle Ridge Road and Pyle South Amherst Road, near his apartment complex. The boy told officers he recognized the van and driver from previous incidents in which the van allegedly followed him on previous occasions, although none of these incidents were reported to the Police.

The boy told officers the van followed him as he rode his scooter from the intersection of Middle Ridge Road/Pyle South Amherst Road, north into the downtown area, west on Milan Ave to the Amherst Junior High School parking lot where the attempted abduction allegedly took place.

The boy was transported back to his residence where officers spoke to his mother.

There were no other similar complaints of this nature.

The Amherst Police Department Detective Bureau is investigating this case and asks that if anyone has any information to please contact Det. Sgt. Dan Jasinski.
