MOTORCYCLE CRASH IN AMHERST

BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER IN CRITICAL CONDITION

A crash in Amherst last night involving a motorcycle sent both the driver and the passenger of the bike to MetroHealth Medical Center where they are now listed in critical condition.

Amherst Police Department say they responded to the intersection of SR 58 (Leavitt Road) and the SR 2 westbound entrance ramp after a reported injury accident between a car and a motorcycle.

Officers learned that a 2004 Dodge Neon, driven by 18 year old Asia Woodmacy of Vermilion Oh, was northbound on SR 58 in the left-hand turn lane to go westbound on SR 2. A 1985 Kawasaki motorcycle, driven by 39 year old Jerry Barfield of Amherst along with his 40-year old passenger old Dawn Rizzen of Wadsworth, were southbound on SR 58. The Kawasaki motorcycle stuck the passenger side of the Dodge Neon within the intersection.

LifeCare Ambulance Paramedics and Amherst Firefighters responded to the scene where they treated the patients and transported them to Community Health Partners West Campus with substantial injuries. Metro LifeFlight had already been alerted to have two helicopters launch for the two victims. Both victims remain in critical condition as of 8:00 a.m. this morning. The driver of the vehicle reported no injuries.

Several witnesses, including an off-duty police officer, were interviewed at the scene by investigating officers. The Amherst Police Department’s investigation of this incident will continues today.
