TO RALLY FOR THE KIDS!

Fed up with the way things are going at the Lorain Board of Education, a large number of concerned parents and citizens are going Old School in how they plan to get answers.

Monday, July 16th, at the Frank Jacinto Elementary School there will be an old fashioned rally demanding answers to questions about the recent termination of 246 teachers along with other concerns parents have. The rally will begin at 5:30, 30 minutes before the start of the Board of Education meeting.

Organizers were also collecting signatures outside of the Lorain Port Fest to recall Board members and alerting citizens of Monday’s rally.

The idea of the rally came from Brian Hazelett, Lorain resident and contributing author to The Word of Mouth Blog. In a blog entry Hazelett stated that he was going to “take my lawn chair and a big ol sign” and sit outside of the Board meeting and waive his sign. Hazelett said he would not go back into a Board meeting until he is told a real plan. “I have made the effort to support public education and the educational process in the past, it is time someone shows that same effort in return.”

Hazelett’s idea has lit a fire amongst angry parents and residents who plan on making sure he is not alone with his lawn chair and big ol sign. Permits for the rally have been requested and everything is set for Monday night. Organizers wish to invite everyone but ask that they be polite and peaceful during the rally.
