THREE MORNING BOMB THREATS

Elyria High School received a bomb threat around 10:40 this morning. Students were evacuated to area buildings, including St. Mary’s gym on Middle and 3rd Street. Elyria Police and Elyria Fire Officials checked the building but found nothing and the students were returned to the building.

South Amherst Middle School received a bomb threat this morning around 8:40. The school was again on a 2-hour delay due to weather concerns so buses bringing kids to the school were rerouted and the building was checked. Max Shoff, Firelands Interim Superintendent said that there was a water line break in the building last night so there were no activities in the building. “We knew that nobody had access to the building last night because of it being closed, we did however review security cameras and did a search of the building before the kids were let back in.”

Shoff confirmed that Police have a juvenile in custody for all three of the bomb threats made to the school, including this morning’s threat. “That is the good news” said Shoff.

A mother of a 5th grade student at the Middle School said that her daughter was happy to hear the person had been arrested. The mother, who wishes to remain anonymous, said, “I hope they prosecute to the fullest extent of the law, this is not funny and it is not cute.”

Lorain Admiral King High School discovered a threatening note on a bathroom wall around 9 this morning. Dean Schnurr, Director of Communications for Lorain City Schools said that the building was evacuated and Police and Fire did a check of the building but found nothing. The students were sent back to the building and resumed their day.
