MAN CRASHES VAN ON 58
South Amherst – A South Amherst man was injured early Saturday morning after he crashed on Route 58, just north of Russia Road.
Trooper Charlie Jackson of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said that 26 year old Jason Peterson of Leavitt Road in South Amherst was traveling north on Route 58 before he lost control of the van he was driving and went off the left side of the road.
Peterson clipped numerous trees along the way before getting back up onto 58 where his van came to rest in the southbound lane.
A driver for the Lorain Morning Journal said he was returning to Lorain after dropping off bundles of papers in Wellington. “Right after I past Russia Road I could see what looked like back up lights going on and off – but they were in the opposite lane so I knew something was wrong.”
The driver said that Peterson did not tell him how the crash occurred, just asked him to call his father and ask him to come to the scene.
Paramedics from Central Lorain County Ambulance District treated Peterson at the scene for a head injury and then transported him to Allen Community Hospital Emergency Room.
Trooper Jackson said that Peterson, although denying that he was the driver, would be charged with Failure to Control, Seatbelt and OVI. Jackson said that aside from the fact that nobody else was seen near the scene – there is a break in the windshield on the driver’s side with blood on it and Peterson has an injury on his forehead.
