WEATHER ALERT

FLOOD WARNING
The National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued a FLOOD WARNING for Lorain & Erie Counties – cities included; Lorain, Elyria & Vermilion until 2:45am Monday morning.

Some Ice Jam Flooding has been reported on the Vermilion River in the city of Vermilion – Minor Flooding has also been reported on the Black River in Elyria.

The Ice Jams were being caused by the rapid snowmelt that has been occurring over the last couple of days. As the water runs off into the river the ice begins to move and sometimes jams. The potential for Ice Jam Flooding will continue this evening as the snowmelt and water runs off into the rivers.

Other streams and creeks in Lorain and Erie Counties may also experience Ice Jam Flooding.

If you live near a river or stream with ice on it – be aware of the potential for some movement of the ice and the possibility of some flooding. If flooding occurs be ready to move to safety – when Ice Jams occur, the rivers rises quickly.
