20 VERMILION HOMES EVACUATED

ICE JAMS BREAK AS TEMPS RISE
Vermilion – Firefighters in Vermilion were busy Sunday afternoon after Ice Jams broke and flooded homes along Riverside Road along the Vermilion River.

Several residents had already left their homes but those who stayed were given the opportunity to be brought to dry land and safety by Firefighters in boats. Some decided to ride out the flood while about a half dozen others loaded into the boats and were transported to higher ground.

Firefighters launched their boats from Riverside Road right at the edge of the flooded area while Vermilion Police Dispatchers called each home effected by the floods to see who wanted to go and who wanted to stay.

In two separate boats, Firefighters made their way through the flooded streets and loaded residents into the boats and transported them to an area where they would be lifted to dry land. Each resident was placed into a Stokes Basket and hoisted up a cliff to a detail of Firefighters and Paramedics.

The American Red Cross was on hand to assist residents.
