4 CAR CRASH ON 57

REAR-ENDER SENDS TWO TO EMH - A BABY TOO
Elyria – A 4 car rear-ender crash on Route 57 in Elyria Wednesday sent 3 people to the hospital – one was an infant. The crash occurred in the northbound lanes of Route 57 at the Beechwood Drive traffic light.

Lieutenant Kevin Szabo of the Elyria Fire Department said that when Firefighters arrived on scene, one of the victims was unresponsive. “We were told as we arrived that the gentlemen in third car back was unresponsive, however when we got to him he was somewhat responsive answering some questions but was incoherent.”

Lieutenant Szabo said that the man had an infant child in the back seat at the time of the crash. Firefighters carried the child to the Ambulance so she could stay with her father who was transported to Elyria Memorial Hospital.

Michael Bridge, Supervisor at
LifeCare Ambulance, said that none of the injuries were life threatening. “We are transporting two adults who were injured and we will be transporting the infant with the father so they can stay together.”

The first three cars were stopped at the traffic light when car number 4 struck car number three and so on and so forth, the domino effect. The drivers of cars one and two both refused treatment or transport.

Firefighters and Paramedics were kept busy going from car to car checking on all the people involved, Lieutenant Szabo said that everyone did a great job tending to all the victims. “This is exactly how we like to see a scene run.”

The Elyria Police Department is investigating the crash.
