UPDATED: MAN SHOT AND KILLED WHILE BREAKING INTO ELYRIA HOME



UPDATE: Elyria Police have released the name of the man that was shot and killed this morning as 29 year old Jeffery B Carson of Elyria.

A search of City of Elyria and Lorain County Court records show Carson has a lengthy criminal record. His history shows charges including Weapons Under Disability, Tampering with Evidence, Criminal Trespass, Receiving Stolen Property, OVI, Criminal Damage, Intimidation and Assault. Carson also has numerous Domestic Violence, Burglary, Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest and Obstructing Official Business charges.

UPDATE – Elyria Police have released a statement in reference to this morning’s robbery attempt at 112 Water Street.
 
The initial investigation shows that at 2:44 a.m. the residents at 112 Water were awakened by an unknown male in the living room believed to be steeling electronics. On the early morning of October 18th this same house was broken into and a TV was stolen.

The resident called out to the male who lunged out to the unknown male who lunged at the resident. The resident was armed with a handgun and fired the weapon, disabling the burglary suspect.

Police do not believe the residents know the identity of the 29 year old deceased suspect. His identity is still being withheld at this time.

DEVELOPING – A man was shot while breaking into a home on Water Street in Elyria early this morning.

Elyria Police responded to the call just before 3am when the homeowner called reporting the shooting. Officers arrived and found the injured suspect in a front room. After making sure it was safe LifeCare Paramedics and Elyria Firefighters entered the home and began treating the man. LifeCare then transported the man to Elyria Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Elyria Police Evidence Technicians remained on scene collecting evidence while the homeowners were taken to the Police Department for further questioning.

Neighbors say the home had been broken into recently and said they did not know if the homeowner had a gun or if it belonged to the suspect.
