FATAL HOUSE FIRE IN ELYRIA

DEVELOPING
Elyria – A morning fire that ripped through a West River Road North home has taken the life of an elderly Elyria man.

Firefighters were called to the home around 11:30 this morning after people driving by noticed smoke coming from the rear of the home.

While Firefighters were responding they were notified of multiple calls coming in about the fire – Elyria immediately requested Mutual Aid from surrounding communities to assist them.

Heavy fire was coming from the rear of the home as Firefighters arrived and smoke was pouring from windows and doors all around the house.

Neighbors and bystanders told Firefighters that the resident was still inside of the home. Firefighters quickly entered the home to perform a search for the man but were not in time to save him.
The man was pulled from the home about 15 minutes later and taken by LifeCare Paramedics.

Firefighters from Lorain, Sheffield Village, Avon and Elyria Township are assisting Elyria at the scene at this time.
