UTILITY POLE FALLS ON CAR

MAN INSIDE CAR ESCAPES INJURY
Elyria – Don Groff was visiting his friend Phil Connor on Gulf Road in Elyria Friday when the unexpected happened. A utility pole that shoots out of Connor’s driveway snapped at the base and fell right onto of Groff’s car.

Connor said he and his wife had just moved into the Gulf Road home only 3 months ago. Work was being done in the front yard clearing a small tree from near the roadway but Connor said no work was being done at the time the pole came down.

Groff said he had just gone out to his car to get something from the front seat when he heard the pole snap. “I looked over and here it comes – I was able to slow it down with the door but it landed right on the windshield.”

Connor said he is not sure what made the pole snap but is surprised that the last storm didn’t bring it down with all the strong winds. “Maybe that weakened it, I don’t know but you can see that the pole inside is wet right to the center and there might be termite damage too. We’re just not sure at this point, I am just happy that nobody was hurt because of this. The windshield will be easy to replace.”
