Thank God no one was killed or anyone else lost property, because of a building that should of been TORN DOWN THE DAY THEY CLOSED IT!!! Like so many empty buildings, these places spell out "something" will eventually happen to them. Tear them down and the chances of "problems" go away..

Perfect opportunity for EFD and the Mayor to consider hiring part-time(cheap) or volunteer (cheaper) firefighters. This countries fire service started with volunteers. There are still more volunteer firefighters in this country than paid ones. When times are financially rough, go back to your roots! Need more manpower? Bring on the part-timers/volunteers. Need more than that? Thank the Lord for mutual aid!! Everyone else uses mutual aid, and now Elyria does too!

Dave,

The EFD has always used mutual aid. If you "hired" vollies you would still be waiting for them to get there, so whats the point? Part timers??? Think about it, you want someone who only does this part time when you depend on them??? How about we replace you and your job with part timers?? You are correct that 90% of FD are vollies, yet they protect only 10% of the population. While 10% are Full time and protect 90% of the population. To go a step further, the vollies and part timers dont have the same level of training as the full timers do. Pretty simple to understand that someone doing this fulltime has more education, training and EXPERIENCE when you and your family are in need. Raise my taxes and give something I count on if/when my little girls need them.....A FULLY STAFFED AND TRAINED FULL TIME FD!!!!

I ask that all this volunteer vs. full time "stuff" stop before it gets started.

The point of matter is this, what happened last Thursday Morning COULD NOT HAVE BEEN achieved without the help of several departments and people.

Part-time, volunteer, full time whatever. We were all Brothers and I take exception to the training issue, thats BS Chief Walker arrived on scene after being special called by me and assisted in so many ways possible.

Chief Walker is the Chief of a volunteer Department, his experience and education rivals many!

Lets cut this stuff out RIGHT NOW please.

Thanks and Stay Safe
