MAN DRIVES LEFT OF CENTER
CRASHES INTO FAMILY OF FOUR
Pittsfield Township – One man remains in critrical condition after a head-on collision Friday afternoon on Route 58 in Pittsfield.Chief Robert Walker of the Wellington Fire District said 83 year old James Howard of Wellington was traveling south on 58 when he drove his Camry left of center and slammed into a Dodge Durango loaded with a family of four. Firefighters had to cut Howard’s Camry apart to get him out for Paramedics to treat him – he was flown from the scene to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.
Chief Walker said that Firefighters also had to extricate the driver of the Durango, 33 year old Michael Leonardi, but Walker said his injuries were not as critical as Howards. A Supervisor for Central Lorain County Ambulance District diverted a second helicopter that was heading to the scene for Leonardi to Allen Medical instead of landing them at the scene. Leonardi’s 33 year old wife Kathleen and two children ages 2 & 1 were all transported to Allen Medical Center in Oberlin to be evaluated – they were later released.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
