HEAD ON COLLISION ON BRUNSWICK

ONE DRIVER PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE
A head on collision late Wednesday night left one driver dead at the scene and another flown from the scene to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

Assistant Chief Ron Brlas of the Elyria Fire Department said they received the call of a two-car head on collision on Brunswick Drive just before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night. “When our crews arrived we found the cars with very severe front end damage and the cars came to rest about 75 to 100 feet apart from one another.”

Chief Brlas said that when they arrived there was such a large debris field that it made it hard for Firefighters to get to the cars. With both cars having such heavy damage Chief Brlas requested that Elyria Township Fire Department respond to the scene with extrication tools in case they would be needed to assist. Elyria Firefighters however were able to extricate the victims before Elyria Township arrived. “Our guys did a great job opening the cars up to allow LifeCare to start treating the victims. I am grateful to Elyria Township for responding as quickly as they did, it’s nice to know that they are there when we need them.”

Chief Brlas confirmed on the scene that the LifeFlight Physician pronounced the driver of the Geo Metro dead at the scene.

The Elyria Police Department accident reconstructionists were on the scene for hours trying to piece together what happened.

By the scanner traffic the Elyria Fire Fighters did a fast and I am sure careful extraction of the lady who was trapped in the one Vehicle, Elyria Township did respond very quickly that is for sure.

Also heard on the scanner one person, a male who was in one of the cars ended up being taken to the Hospital by family or a friend not long after it happen, How did he make out?
