HAPPY 75th AVON FIRE DEPARTMENT

TMC NEWS: “In The Community”

The Avon Fire Department celebrated their 75th Anniversary Saturday morning with a parade from the High School to the Fire Station.

Joined by Departments from throughout the area, Avon Fire displayed all of their trucks to the people who were lining the streets enjoying the parade. The parade also allowed Avon Fire to show off their newest truck; “Truck 468”. Avon Fire Chief Frank Root said he had some nervous days leading up to the parade because the truck was not showing up. “I made a call and told the dealer that we wanted our new truck in the parade today and I didn’t care what it took, I wanted it here.” The truck arrived Friday night at midnight, 11 hours before the start of the parade.

Chief Root said this is a great way to say thank you to the community and to show them that their Fire Department appreciates their support. “We have received so much support from this community, I was happy to see so many people along the parade route.” Chief Root also wanted to thank all of the departments that showed up with their Engines, young and old, to participate in the parade. The oldest, that I found at least, was a 1919 and of course the youngest would be Avon’s new Truck 468.

Other departments participating were, Avon Lake, Sheffield Village, Carlisle Township, The Lorain County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, Rocky River, Amherst, Vermilion, Vermilion Township, Elyria Township, Eaton Township, Florence Township, New Philadelphia, Olmsted Falls, Western Reserve Museum, Cedar Point, Tri-C Training Academy and Strongsville.

Along with the community and other Fire Departments, Chief Root said he most wanted to thank his Firefighters for their help in getting the parade ready. “I am so lucky to work with this group, they are the best. I am extremely proud of them and this Department.”
