COUNTY AIRPORT HOLDS FESTIVAL

TMC NEWS: “In The Community”

The Lorain County Regional Airport hosted a community appreciation day festival Saturday filled with planes, food and fun for all. Skip Skolnik of Johnwin Aviation said it was away to show the community what they have in their back yard. “We have a great airport here and not enough people know about it or what it does for the county. It’s just a neat way to celebrate aviation.” Skolnik wants the community to know that the airport is a great asset to the community and it brings business here. “Being with the proximity to Cleveland a lot of people don’t understand what it does for us in helping bring business here and it is only getting better and bigger.” Skolnik said that with the new condominium style hangers that are going in would just add to the attraction of Lorain County Regional Airport for prospective new businesses. The private hangers will be 44’x40’ with 40’ bi-fold doors. The project calls for 12 units of which 6 are already sold Skolnik said. “It’s been a very long process but a very positive one. We have worked closely with the Lorain County Commissioners and the Fixed Base Operations here at Johnston Aviation and the different residents.”

Skolnik said that the hangers would be a combination of personal and business. “We have a lot of individuals who have businesses as well and we are talking to some large businesses who want to move in. I am talking to a large retailer in Cleveland who is very interested in putting their plane here. They’ll be able to have meetings here, fly people in here and it will become like their hub of transportation. A real estate agent from Medina is interested in relocating his business to Lorain County and he in interested in buying two units with a loft and running his business from there and he’s a private pilot as well.”

Saturday’s festival included: Lorain County Sheriff’s Department SWAT display, Child Identification Program, DARE car and demonstrations of their robot, LifeCare Ambulance displayed their vintage Cadillac Ambulance, Lorain County Homeland Security displayed their new Command Post Vehicle. Remote Controlled Airplanes and full size planes were also on display.
