8 TRAFFIC DEATHS OVER HOLIDAY
The Ohio State Highway Patrol in Columbus reported that 5 out of the 8 people killed in 5 crashes during the 48-hour reporting period for the 4th of July holiday were between the ages of 15-18 years old. Three out of the 5 fatal crashes resulted in multiple fatalities.
Over the two-day holiday reporting period, State Troopers arrested 294 impaired drivers and assisted 3,332 motorists.

The Weekend Traffic Fatalities were recorded starting July 3rd from 12:01am until July 4th at midnight.
Two fatal crashes were reported on State / Federal Highways with 3 killed
Two fatal crashes were reported on County roads with 4 people killed
One fatal crash was reported on a city street with 1 person killed
Alcohol use was reported in one of the fatal crashes, 2 had no alcohol use and 2 are still not known.
Safety belts were in use in four of the fatalities, two were not used and two were motorcycle fatalities. The two individuals killed on the motorcycle were not wearing helmets.
The State Patrol would like to remind drivers that we should remain cognizant of traffic safety as holiday-related activities continue for many through this coming weekend. Adherence to Ohio motor vehicle laws, safety belt usage, and not driving impaired are all key measures to maintain safety on Ohio roads.
