LORAIN HOUSE FIRE ON W 17th ST
Carlisle Township Fire Chief Russ Gardner discusses the shuttle strategy with Eaton Township Fire Chief Phil Slack.
Lorain Firefighters barely had time to relax from their afternoon house fire when the bells went off for a house fire on W 17th Street. The house, a double wide with a garage, has been vacant for years and neighbors say that there was a fire there about 14 years ago, since then it has sat empty. Jim Smith lives directly behind the home and was sleeping when the fire broke out. “I had gone to bed cause I was working all day and I was hearing fireworks and seeing flashes but it wasn’t until my dog woke me up alerting me that something was wrong.” When Smith went outside he said he had never seen a fire like it before in his life. “The flames were shooting 30 feet above the tree line, I could not believe the amount of flames that was coming out of that house.” Smith and some of his fellow neighbors who had assembled in his yard to watch the fire said they would put money down that fireworks caused this fire. “It was bound to happen, non stop fireworks going off and I have some marks on my house from rockets that come from the other street.”
As if the job of battling the blaze wasn’t hard enough, Lorain Firefighters found themselves scrambling for water when access to a hydrant at the corner was denied due to a stripped bolt. Neighbor Jessie Peters said that made her mad. “They were shooting water on the house then like all of a sudden no water. They were running around trying to find somewhere else to get water from but couldn’t find any. I want to know why my neighborhood doesn’t have water to fight a fire.”

Tankers from surrounding Fire Departments were brought in to supply water to the Lorain Firefighters. Carlisle Township, Amherst, Eaton Township and South Amherst assisted in the shuttle for Lorain.
Lorain Fire Department will be investigating the cause of the blaze.

Looks like Chronicle pictures. No actual Lorain firefighters in them. Just people from other departments
Sounds like a bitter Lorain fireman to me. I notice this anonymous person did not comment on the other fire in Lorain where TMC News has atleast 11 photos of Lorain firemen posted. I guess this bitter fireman got into the fire fighting business for the glory, fame and pictures in the newspapers. A sad commentary in my mind.

Yes I agree with what was said above.. I was over this way last night at a buddies and we couldent figure out what was going on until we went to TMC this is the best site ever.
Maybe instead of whining about the other firemen getting their pictures taken this bitter fireman should take the opportunity to say thank you to them for assisting them that night when the water pressure failed them.

We just all need to be thankful that noone was hurt. And that TMC News is not charging for all of there pictures. TMC your doing an awesome job please don't stop. And just remember what your parents should have taught you, if you have nothing nice to say don't say it at all.
I would like to thank Elyria Township Fire for their help also. They hauled all of the hose to set us up with much needed water and weren't mentioned as being called.
