SHOTS FIRED

A Lorain Police Officer, while on patrol near the east end of Oakwood Park early Saturday morning, heard 5 gunshots ring out in the area of Grove Ave and East 32nd Street. As the Officer began checking the area he peered over a wooden fence at 2217 East 32nd Street, suddenly the rear storm door of the residence swung open and the officer observed a white males right arm lean out of the doorway and point a firearm into the air and fire at least six shots in succession.

The officer immediately notified Lorain Police Dispatch and requested additional units for assistance. While waiting the officer sought cover behind a large tree, a moment later the Officer observed the front inner door of the home open and watched a white male, later identified as Lloyd Young, looked outside through the window in the door. The Officer quickly stepped out from behind the tree with his weapon drawn and approached the front porch and identified himself to Young as Lorain Police and shouted to Young to exit the residence. Young, seeing the Officer quickly stepped back inside and slammed the door shut.

Once additional units arrived the scene the home was surrounded and an Officer shouted for all occupants to exit the home immediately with their hands in the air. Two females and a male exited the home and were detained. Officers then entered the home to do a sweep in search of the suspect who fired the gun. Officers found Young hiding in an upstairs bedroom and he was taken into custody. During a search of the home Officers discovered “in plain view on the kitchen counter what appeared to be several small corner ends of clear plastic baggies lying about in an area of a small white granular substance.” It was tested positive for cocaine during a field test.

Young, a resident of Sheffield Village, was charged with Improperly Discharging Firearms At Home/School, Using Weapons While Intoxicated, Inducing Panic, Obstructing Official Business, and Tampering With Evidence.
