MAN SHOT IN DOWNTOWN ELYRIA

Elyria – One man ended up in the hospital and another in Jail early this morning after a shooting in downtown Elyria.

A shot that sounded like a canon firing rang out in downtown Elyria early Sunday morning as patrons of the downtown bars were milling around on Kerstetter Way. Just seconds after the shot was heard an alert Elyria Police Officer spotted a large SUV pull off of Kerstetter Way onto Broad Street at a high rate of speed. The Officer quickly fell in behind and pulled the SUV over on Broad near West Ave.

Other Officers arrived and performed a Felony Stop having the driver exit the vehicle and walk backwards towards them. While the man was following orders he kept telling Officers he did nothing wrong that he just wanted to get out of the area. When Officers asked where the gun was he said he had no gun.

Once he was secured Officers searched the vehicle and discovered a large 6-shooter .44 Magnum handgun with one spent shell in the back of the SUV.

The victim was taken to Amherst Hospital by friends and told Officers he didn’t know anything.

Its good to see the police doing what they do best-arresting dangerous people with guns. We need to support our police officers by calling our mayor, and our councilmen and telling them that no matter what-we need to have more police officers, a jail, and the return of the civilian police force.
