GAS ODOR EVACS SCHOOL

Elyria – Students and faculty from Open Door school on West Ridge Road were evacuated Thursday afternoon after a maintenance man smelled natural gas in the building.

Elyria Firefighters responded to the school and although they were told that the odor was strong in the school and gym, nothing was detected.

Assistant Chief Ron Brlas of the Elyria Fire Department said that Firefighters checked the building from front to back. β€œThe guys did a very thorough search of all buildings and discovered no leaks or odors. When we arrived everyone had been evacuated and they had opened doors and windows – it is possible that whatever odor they detected simply left the building.”

After Firefighters cleared the building everyone was allowed to return to their classes.
