WOMAN PLOWS INTO 6-PARKED CARS

Elyria – A woman driving on Broad Street through downtown Elyria Saturday night drove into a line of cars parked on the side of the road.

Ray Hanini owns Hanini’s Sub & Corned Beef shop on Broad Street between East Ave and Washington Ave. – he and his employees said they heard the crash and ran outside. “It was crazy to see the damage – there was a truck up on the sidewalk right next door and busted up cars were everywhere.”

Robin Redel was standing outside of the Tattoo Lounge and watched as the crash happened. “We saw her coming from East Ave towards us (westbound) in the eastbound lane. She had to be going between 40 & 45 MPH. Then when she got near Hanini’s a car passed her going the opposite way and that’s when she veered left and into the cars.”

When the woman’s car struck the first car the rest fell like dominos. Cars and trucks were thrown around with a Ford Explorer ending up on the sidewalk near the entrance to Bugsy’s. The woman’s car came to rest in the center of Broad Street – Redel, a former EMT, ran to provide aid to the driver. “I could tell that she seemed out of it before she even struck the first car and when I got to her she was very confused. She said she wasn’t aware of the crash and wasn’t sure where she was, although I think she might have been coming from school cause she was wearing a college ID around her neck.”

An Elyria Police Officer who was traveling on Broad Street rolled up on the crash just after it happened and called for an ambulance.

LifeCare Paramedics and Elyria Firefighters responded to the scene and treated the woman. Paramedics then transported her to Elyria Memorial Hospital.

Broad Street remained closed for about an hour, between Washington Ave and East Ave, while Elyria Police Officers worked to put the pieces of the puzzle together and Mug’s Towing Technicians worked to pull the cars apart and off the sidewalk.

The crash remains under investigation.

you know i have been following TMC NEWS since the beginning and have found that 95% of the accident photos that are taken do not show pictures of the towing company, unless of course are Vaughns Towing or D & A towing. The truth of the matter is that the towing contractors are a very important part of an accident scene with out them the cars would just sit there in the middle of the road. So share the spot light let the public see that the rest of the towing contractors work just as hard if not harder.

Becky Milks says, I have to agree with Dave. My husband works for Elyria Towing and he does the same thing that Dave was talking about. The majority of these men do this job because they enjoy it and are not out there trying to get a picture or name in the paper. These guys do it because so many others won't. Mr Anonymous please put a name to your "anonymous" so that I and other citizens know who wants the publicity in this line of work so we know who not to call on. I would rather see compnaies out doing their jobs than hearing someone bitch on a blog site. I have known Dave and his dad for several years now and I know that they do not care about a picture on this site of them, they only care that the job was done and at the end of the day everyone was safe and able to return home to their families. I have been following TMC for a long time now and personally know that Terry has and will continue to post pictures of accident scenes with the Tow Truck companies name showing weither it be Vaughn's, D&A, Elyria, Don's, etc...I think that instead of bitching and moaning you should try to get out there and work with all these guys from these companies. Once you do this I bett you would find out that they are a bunch of great guys that are willing to help easch other out and not complain on who got what picture posted where or who did not get a picture at all. There has been plenty of times that individual guys from Elyria Towing have been pictured on this site without even a truck in view.
Another thing that I have to agree with Dave on is you should not be worried about who is pictured and who is not; instead you should worry about who is safe or not. There has been several of guys from Elyria Towing hit on the side of the road. Notice how I said Elyria Towing instead of Dave being hit. I didn't want to hurt your poor feelings for giving him or his dad the spotlight. Nobody ever really hears about when our men get hurt unless they almost lose their life like Dave did. I think you should be stressing the point to move over and obey the laws and keep our men safe instead of whine whine whine I missed a photo shoot. Becky Milks

I was the car going in the opposite direction of this accident on saturday evening. I still can't believe it happened. It happened so fast. I looked up ahead and saw a cars lights on the wrong side of the street in front of me. For a minute, I thought it was parked until I realized it was moving towards me. I swerved around her just in time, or else this story might have contained two fatalities from one head-on collision. I've been searching the newspaper to find out if she was drunk or just sick and passed out. I'm grateful that I made it home that night, because just like that my life could have ended.

Becky Milks says, Dave and his Dad are very respectful people in the Lorain County community, I do not think that what companies or departments they do work with should be looked at as if they are bribbing people for publicity or something. I think that tat this point and time everyone needs to realize that regardless of who works for who or who does what towing that the only thing people should remember is that Dave, his dad, and my husband are all out there each and everyday putting their lives in jeporday so that a person on the side of the road in need can get home to their loved ones. I am speking for my husband and alot of other towmen out there when I say they do not do it for the publicity or the adviertisment, they are doing it because it is their life, runs in their blood, and they love doing their job. All of these men have helped spmeone without charging them for the service. I hope that when you go to bed tonight you are able to say you made a difference in somebodies life today or that you made them happy somehow. I know that Dave, his dad, and my husband Joe all will be able to go to bed tonight knowing that they have done so and could careless wht the pay was if any. I believe that when it comes to the point that someones line of work or commitment is coming down to a anonymous person judging them than the anonymous one needs to look in the mirror and have a realality check. Mr. Anonymous you need to get a life and stop trying to judge people and maybe you would be pictured on this site if you cared about the people you help instead of your wallet or fame.
Now I have gone on enough about that there is something else on my mind that I would like to post.
It is coming into the holiday seasons this year and I would like each and everyone of you reading this to thank the loved ones around you for everything they have done and are doing. We as Americans take so much for granted and never sit back and think of the true meaning of the holidays. I want each of you to sit back and say I am greatful of thankful for something. At this time of the year each and every night my husband comes home I am thankful and relieved that he survived another day on the side of the road. This is the scariest time of the year for me not knowing if he will be home or not because of the snow, ice, etc...I hope that each person out their gives thanks to our men in the towtrucks at this time of the uear every year. We as a community need to recognize how muxh these men are in danger each and everyday and personally thank them for that and also move over when we see them on the side of the highway. I do not want to be the wife of a towtruck driver that lost his life because of someone not obeying the law; nor do I want to be a good friend of Dave's or his dad having to sit back and watch their families going through this if this were to happen. So please pay attention and move over for the AMBER lights and not just the red and blue. Thank you, Becky

No argument here - it's that we are all up against the federal nanny-state regulation. We can wish-them-away all we want, but unfortunately they're here to stay.

I have to throw kudos to Vaughn's and D&A towing. They are good hearted people. I personally know each of them. They truely help people in need, without dollar signs as their primary goal. Keep up the good work and don't let the evil doers get you down. He will have to answer for his actions later.

9:17 PM

First off, Vaughns & D&A towing are both good on scene. Professional, helpful, and stay out of the way of EMS, Fire, Police, Swat, State Highway Patrol whatever...

Second, they are the companies that show up the quickest.

Third, ever wonder who the city of Elyria contracts for towing? Most cities have a call list.

Fourth, the green vests and jackets Lifecare Ambulance wears are great. You can see them from a good distance and it gives drunk drivers something shiny to look at.

Great angles on the accident photos!!!

Nobody said anything about fire or police not wearing vests....

Fire has reflective stripes on their turnout gear but police has zilch........
