MIDWAY MALL T.G.I. FRIDAY’S CLOSES

EMPLOYEES TOLD EARLY THIS MORNING
Elyria – Management of T.G.I. Friday’s, located at Elyria’s Midway Mall, made phone calls this morning around 8am notifying employees that they did not have to show up for work today – the store is closed for good.

The news came as a shock to the employees who just last night told TMC NEWS that although they have had some slow periods, the business had been picking up during the holiday season.

With an off duty Elyria Police Officer, hired by Friday’s, on hand the signs went up on the doors telling employees and customers about the closing. A large Ryder truck arrived around 9am to start removing items from the store.

The sign read: “Although it is a very difficult decision, we have made the business decision to close this location. We thank our employees and guests for their years of support and we invite you to continue to enjoy T.G.I. Friday’s at Westlake, Brooklyn, Strongsville or any of the other 9 locations in the Cleveland/Akron area. Be reassured that all gift certificates will be accepted these or any of the other 660 T.G.I. Friday’s across the United States.”

another example of corporate cowards! We wnat to make as much money as possible then just lock the doors. If we give the employees notice they may not come back and we would loose money. What a bunch of corporate assholes! Haas

Who is next?
When is the mall a simple ghost town of shops that 'used to be there'?

This is not a "GRACE" issue, but a state of Elyria issue. Unfortunately, this starts at the residents and moves up the chain.

Sad to see it go...

NOOOOO!!!! That was one of my favorites... How sad! Not only that the restaurant has closed, but it's employees had to lose their jobs right before Christmas. Good luck to them all.

We still have Olive Garden, which is one of the reasons that TGI Friday's lost business.

One, not the only reason, just one.

Thats correct, its NOT a Grace issue. But some on blogs are already pointing the finger at him and saying TGI Fridays CLOSED because of this Krazy Macs thing. Wonder where the block watch guy got his info. Thats whats wrong with people now a days, spread lies!! Thanks to TMCNEWS for getting the story out.

Why would anyone continue to patronize a business that shows so little concern for its' employees, especially at Christmas???? I know that I certainly won't. I agree with the other writers; what a bunch of cowards!!

I feel sorry for the people who worked there, I mean come on: Its almost Christmas!
What a shabby way to treat their employees!
That company should be ashamed of themselves!
I hope that the employee's manage to have a nice holiday season regardless of the cold compassion shown by the owners of TGIFridays.

Unbelievable....how are these employees supposed to plan for the holidays? They make the asumption that they have a job to pay for the holidays and then the rug is pulled out from under them with no warning. I will never go to another TGI Fridays again. Shameful.

I agree. The city itself has been going for a very long time. I think it's time to admit it's done. RUN don't WALK from Elyria. The place is nothing more than a past. People with hopes & visions of it growing or stabilizing are living a pipe dream as it's just short of being as bad as Lorain.

A sad realization indeed. Greatfully, my family & I are getting out of Ohio altogether. There simply is little or not opportunity here any longer.

The mall will soon be closed due to all the criminals (Look at sears they had to close entries due to the increase in shoplifting). No one wants to go to that mall with a bunch of thugs. The blame goes to the mayor and the county commissioners. They need to kill the LCT and help the businesses in the mall. I drive to Crocker Park or Strongsville to do my shopping, they extra drive is worth it. I don’t hear the ghetto language or worry about being robbed.

I think they are questioning new businesses being affected by the sign saga and not existing businesses. But, they have not filled Bennigans, Lonestar, or El Jarabe (Red Robin). I am guessing that Applebees may be next on the list, since Lorain and Avon both have one.

They have not filled any of the empty restaurants, but allow Chipotle to come in and build a new building - in front of a vacated strip mall???? Where is the logic?????? If Chipotle wants to come into Elyria - tell them to revamp one of the MANY empty spaces that are already here, why on EARTH are we allowing them to build??????????

Its not the mayor or the county commissioners fault. I mean they cant help that the city is filled with lazy bums. All we have to do is get rid of wellfair in elyria and all those "thugs" will leave. I also think they should start knocking down alot of the houses south of broad street and turning it into condos. Get rid of all the white trash and dark trash in the city and fill it with working people who pay taxes not us our tax money. I hate going to work and seeing my tax money getting spent by these lazy bums. They call an ambulance for a RIDE becuase they have the flu. They find it funny because us working folk pay for it and they dont have to get the bill or have to pay a penny. The city is well past the point of fixing it. Let it burn or turn it into a land fill.

It's welfare, not "wellfair". You clearly have some well thought out sensible and realistic plans. Why your ideas of ridding the area of "white trash" and "dark trash" (to whom you are obviously so superior) haven't been implemented is BEYOND me.

As much as I loved the Jack Daniels Burger nothing irriates me more then to see how crappy the treated the employees so close to holidays. But regardless holidays or not it was still crappy. I wish all the employees the best.

Im sorry for the spelling error. It is pretty clear that you don't get to see your tax money wasted buy lazy people every day you go to work. I mean when people tell you to your face the only reason they called an amublance is for a ride becuase the gov. pays for it and they didn't want to waste money on a taxi. Maybe you would be sick of it too. Yes i am obviously so superior to them because i have a full time job and i pay taxes. I dont sit at home and watch my 50in flat screen tv (that they used tax pays money on) everyday like some of the people in elyria.

by not buy. Sorry again for the spelling error. i guess i should point that out before everyone starts pointing it out

I don't feel one bit sorry for the employees. It was the worst place for service I have ever seen. 20 minutes to get a fresh glass of water becuse the first one still had lipstick on it. Learn your job and get off your butt and you will work again.

Elyria is not the only one feeling the hit...Parma Fridays also closed its doors at 7pm last night...2hours before it was intended to close normally. Then that same sign was placed on the doors and the same truck pulled up to take everything away. A very sad day for anyone working in Elyria and Parma.

That whole area is on a downward spiral. Too late to bring in the Olive Garden, Chipotle. Don't want to shop with thugs anymore, now we can go to Avon. Its only a matter of time before the mall closes.

This goes to the last comment posted, thugs are everywhere avon included just read the police log. wake up!!!!

I agree with the post that thugs are everywhere. But Avon, Crocker Park, Strongsville (the places people prefer to shop) at least does something about it.

Yeah, but I'd rather run into an Avon "thug" than an Elyria thug. Haha.

That's because they allowed section 8 housing to be built in Avon. What a waste in a nice developing area.

I agree with the people that say that the TGI Fridays manangement is nothing but corporate cowards. But dont stop eating at the other locations becasue of it. You all say that you feel sorry for the employees but all of the employees from Parma and Elyria got transferred to the other locations. If you all stop eating at the other locations then your the ones that are hurting our buisness and our holidays, not the management.
