CAR CROSSES MEDIAN - SLAMS BIKE

Carlisle Township – A crash early Friday morning has left one man in critical condition after he was struck while riding his motorcycle.

The crash occurred shortly after 7am Friday morning on Route 20, just west of Route 301. Officials say a car traveling east on Route 20 crossed the median and struck a motorcycle that was traveling in the westbound lane.

Carlisle Township Firefighters and LifeCare Paramedics treated two victims at the scene – one victim, the man on the motorcycle, was in critical condition.

Although Metro LifeFlight was called to the scene they aborted the mission due to bad weather about 10 minutes out. The victim was then transported to Elyria Memorial Hospital where he was later transported by ground to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Those yellow safety coats and vest just really stand out on those scenes. Is it required that everyone wears those vests or coats?

I know that Lifecare requires their people to wear them at every MVA.

This is regaurding the safety vests:

On August 10, 2005, President Bush signed the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU), which authorizes the Federal surface transportation programs for highways, highway safety, and transit for the 5-year period 2005-2009. Pursuant to this law, the Federal Highway Administration (FHA) proposed a new federal regulation on April 24, 2006 published in volume 71 Federal Register, page 20925 (71 Fed. Reg. 20925) that requires all workers within the right-of-way of a Federal-aid highway to wear an ANSI 107 (2004) Class 2 or 3 high-visibility vest. On November 24, 2006 the FHA published the final rule, which becomes effective on November 24, 2008, at 71 Fed. Reg. 67792. All first responders working within the right-away of a federal-aid highway are covered by the new Rule. Why does extra visibility protection matter?
