GAS LEFT ON IN HOME ALL NIGHT
“I’m Surprised It Didn’t Blow”
Lorain – Residents living in the 4500 block of Camden Ave. can count their blessings tonight as a disaster was somehow averted.Assistant Chief Randy Hupp of the Lorain Fire Department said their Department received a call that a man living at 4509 Camden Ave had turned the gas on in his home and left it on overnight. “When we arrived the Police were taking the man into custody already so we got the gas shut off at the street and then started ventilating the home.”
Firefighters went into the home opened windows and doors and used a positive pressure fan to ventilate the gas. Using specialized meters, Firefighters kept track of the amount of gas that was escaping the home.
As a precaution neighbors on either side of the gas house were evacuated until the levels were brought back down to where it was safe.
Chief Hupp said that the source of the gas was from a pipe in the kitchen. “The pipe that would normally attach to the stove is what he used. There was no stove in there and he just turned that line on and let it leak into the home throughout the night. I’m really surprised that it didn’t go off, either by water tank or by any of the fans that he had on in the home. We were very lucky here.”

Okay, you got me. Any idea if this was an attempted suicide (if he was in the house) or an arson attempt for insurance (if he left the house with the gas on)? Either way, a sad story.
