DANCING ON MAIN STREET
Amherst – The danced, sang, dunked, ate, tossed beanbags and some even attempted the Hoola Hoop.
Thousands turned out for another successful “Dancing on Main Street” in downtown Amherst Saturday. Main Street Amherst and Premier Toyota-Scion of Amherst sponsored the event. Bands began playing at 3PM and the music ran all night leading up to the crowd favorite and headliner, The Naked Monkeys.
Throughout the day guests were able to enjoy food and beverages from local taverns as well as the typical carny food (funnel cakes & other fried goodies). Corn Hole enthusiasts were treated to the annual Corn Hole Tournament in front of Park Lanes Bowling & Lounge. As a matter of fact, it was hard to turn around without spotting a Corn Hole set up – they were everywhere!
Great Lakes Church staff treated kids and adults to free cotton candy, balloons and other assorted treats. They also had a Hoola Hoop contest scheduled for 7:30PM – however, one adult threw down the gauntlet to a small child challenging him to a Hoola Hoop contest early in the day. The child, while laughing and eating candy, won. (Identify the man who challenged the child and get your name thrown into the hat to win a TMCNEWS.NET polo shirt – leave your guesses in the comments section)
The headliner, The Naked Monkeys, took to the stage shortly after 9 and played until midnight, rockin the streets of downtown Amherst and keeping their fans dancing until closing time.
So another year down and now the clock starts to Dancing on Main Street 2009, only 364 days to go.

THOUGHT YOU’D LIKE TO KNOW
On Saturday I had to shoot four events – I started at 10AM in Wellington for the Child Car Seat Safety Inspection, then a quick stop in Oberlin for the Family Fun Fair before getting to Amherst around 3 for “Dancing on Main Street” – Having not eaten yet and not wanting to eat Carney food outside on a picnic table, I of course stopped at Olde Town Pizza. I figured I would either get a sub and salad bar or a small spaghetti and salad – BUT THEN as I was checking out the salad bar I spotted the soup of the day – Beef Stroganoff. So I ordered the all you can eat soup & salad. HOLY CRAP that was good. The sauce was amazing and I am told it is made in house from scratch. I stopped at two bowls because I remembered what Jason always use to say, (do we all remember Sundays with Jason) “All you can eat is an offer, not a challenge”
So if you are in Olde Town and see that the Soup of the Day is Beef Stroganoff, ORDER IT!
