Elyria Township Firefighters are on scene at Rosie’s Family Restaurant for a reported partial building collapse. Rosie’s is located in Elyria Township at 42753 North Ridge Road.
All occupants have been removed from the building and we have confirmed that at least one man, who was in the building at the time of the collapse, has been taken to Elyria Memorial Hospital. Family members of the man say that the collapse was interior and not the actual outside structure.

UPDATE: 10:30 PM
Assistant Chief Russ Scarbrough of the Elyria Township Fire Department said they received the call as a roof collapse with people trapped. “Hearing that information I immediately had mutual aid called in from Sheffield Township and Sheffield Village Fire Departments. In the end it was a ceiling, approximately a 15 x 20 section that collapsed inside the restaurant. Large chunks of plaster, duct work and lighting fixtures all came down striking some of the patrons inside.”
Scarbrough said that a total of 16 people were inside of the building at the time of the collapse but only two were transported with scraps and bruises, the remaining 14 all signed off refusing treatment or transport. “There was one man who was trapped inside of his booth. When all the debris came down it surrounded the booth trapping him inside, so it wasn’t like the debris had him pinned down, just trapped inside the booth.”
The man who was trapped in the booth has been released from the Emergency Room and is resting at home at this hour with a “major headache” and multiple contusions.
Through family members we have learned that the 66 year old man had gone into the restaurant and had placed his order. The man told family members that he then heard a series of thuds and then the ceiling came crashing down on and around him.
Construction crews arrived on scene and have begun assessing the damage. Rosie’s will not be open for business tomorrow.
