"LOOK, A CAR IN THE RIVER...

... I THINK I WILL POKE AT IT"
Elyria – Have you finished scratching your head yet wondering why the two men drove around the locked gates in Elywood Park and drove into the Black River? If so, get the finger ready to start scratching again.

Elyria Police were called to Elywood Park early Sunday evening after people in Cascade spotted, what they thought were kids, poking around the car in the river. Officers make the trek down the hill and spotted Jonathan Hicks of Amherst using a tree branch to fish items out of the car.

Hicks, who was accompanied by a woman and of course a small child, was able to fish a jacket out of the car but nothing else. Hicks said he spotted the car and wanted to make sure nobody was inside. He made no calls to the Police of Fire Department to report the sunken car however.

Officers questioned Hicks then sent him on his way. No charges were filed.

Does not even deserve comment. Think it is rather self explainatory. LOL

That's called "fishing" the Elyria way... it was made popular by the natives of Lorain although in Lorain the cars weren't in rivers and instead of using sticks they used slimjims... Lorain Historian #774889

So, did he get to keep the jacket, did the police take it or was it tossed back into the car?? He should get something for his troubles.
At least he can tell his friends about the big one that got away next time he's telling fish stories.

Looting. What a great example this moron is giving that child. And we blame teachers for the way kids behave?

the so called comment about no calls to the police however.... not every person on the planet has a cell phone... Jon's one of them. Kinda hard to call police when you dont have a phone on you and you're checking for people to save... this would be a whole different convo we'd be having if there was someone in there... let me think about this... hey there may be someone inside here... lets go walk to the car and drive to the police station so when we return they could be dead or floating downstream somewhere...

Good job Jon
