FORD ROAD BRIDGE COLLISION

Elyria – A head on collision Saturday afternoon on the Ford Road Bridge in Elyria sent two people to the Emergency Room with non-life threatening injuries.

A Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling westbound on Ford Road was believed to be left of center as it approached the bridge, the Ford F-150 traveling east across the bridge was struck head on by the Cherokee causing heavy damage to both vehicles.

Elyria Firefighters and LifeCare Paramedics treated the victims at the scene with two females from the F-150 being transported to Elyria Memorial Hospital. The two people in the Cherokee refused treatment or transport from Medics.

Although both the Cherokee and the F-150 received heavy damage, no extrication was needed. Firefighters did point out however that the airbags in the f-150 never deployed.

The Elyria Police Department is investigating the crash.

Isn't this normally a 'one car at a time' bridge?

If you read the signs on both sides before the bridge it says "one lane bridge". By the picture I can tell you it is the Jeeps fault. I cross it many times and it kills me when people try fitting two on it, I won't move over and will make the other ca back up. Like Bill Engvall says, "here's your sign"!!!

Yes, I'm pretty sure there are signs on both sides of the bridge that it is a one lane bridge. Also posted for slow speed. From the picture, it looks like both cars were on the bridge and must have been going fairly quick to cause that amount of damage.

I dont think it is a one car bridge. Anybody with just a LITTLE bit of driving ability can cross that bridge w/ 2 cars on it... EASILY!!!

It is posted "One lane bridge", not one 'car' bridge, and the signs are on both sides.

Well anonymous, since you won't post your name, if you look at the pictures provided by TMCNEWS you'll see it happend at the side of the bridge where the Jeep was entering from. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that the truck was already on the bridge and about to completely cross over when the idiot in the jeep entered the bridge and hit the truck. Hope that clears things up for you. Maybe I should become a CSI, it's easier then I thought.

More CSI!!!! See what lane the Jeep is in? Would be OK if we were in Europe but the yellow line needs to be on the left side of your vehicle in Ohio.

I have been across there with my truck with another vehicle passing the opposite direction. Just have to stay over and be ready if someone else approaches. It's the curves at the bridge approaches that are too narrow. But this one is just someone driving like a idiot again. Haas

regardless if you can fit two cars side by side when you cross that bridge this just goes to show you why you shouldnt. the ppl who cross this bridge always fly right up not paying any attention and its unfortunate for the ones in the truck but for the idiots in the jeep its obvious they learned a valuable lesson some of the other idiots should learn while crossing this bridge... slow the F down and pay attention - dont just assume you can squeeze your way in. i was almost hit there yesterday actually so this was refreshing to see someone get what was coming to them. sorry for the ones in the truck though. :)
