WARNING FOR AMHERST RESIDENTS

The Amherst Police Department has issued a WARNING for residents about a recent rash of thefts.

“We’ve been experiencing a surge in vehicles and garages being entered on the west side of town over the last week (3/24/09-4/1/09). This is in spite of our arresting four criminals committing the same type of crime approximately two weeks ago. The thieves are targeting unlocked garages and vehicles, whether the vehicles are parked inside the garage or in the driveway.” Amherst Police Department

Police say the most popular items appear to be power tools. Other missing items include cell phones, iPods, purses, RADAR detectors, GPS devices, and spare change.

If citizens would make themselves a harder target by locking up at night and removing valuables from plain sight, Police believe they would reduce their chances of being a victim. Most victims’ vehicles and garages have been unlocked.

Police ask citizens to report any suspicious activity – especially at night.

Does anyone know if the four that were arrested are still locked up or are they back out on the streets up to their old ways?
